Unlike standard stainless steel models, gmw-b5000tva-1 is made of light titanium. It also comes with sapphire glass. Initial reports showed that watches (bezel cases and bracelets) were treated with diamond coating (DLC). According to G-Shock Japan, the surface uses DLC treatment and black ion plating (IP) as "baffle parts", which is a combination we have never seen before.
As for what all this means for the exact location of DLC and IP on the bezel, it depends on everyone's guess. We just need to point out that the bezel area around the screen seems to have a different tone and texture from the rest of the bezel. In addition, the term "baffle part" usually refers to a part of the baffle rather than the whole baffle.
The "diamond like carbon" etching on the side of the baffle makes us think that the whole baffle (or "shell", if you like) has DLC, and IP may be applied on it to obtain this contrast, but this has not been confirmed.
